Reference of Murphy baby turns Barfi! in trouble

Many may have forgotten about the British manufacturers Murphy Radio or the Murphy baby who featured in the print advertisements of the company in 1960s and 70s India. Until of course, the title song from Ranbir Kapoor's next film Barfi! - A La Barfi, reminded us of them.

But the company, Murphy Enterprises isn't too happy with this sudden usage of their registered trademarks of Murphy, Murphy Radio ad Murphy Munna by the filmmakers, that too without acquiring a NOC (No Objection Certificate) from them.

In fact, Murphy Enterprises has sent a legal notice dated September 10 to UTV Motion Pictures, the producers of the film. In a letter accompanying the legal notice, the company says it will seek a stay order to the release of the movie if their legal notice is not taken seriously.


Sujit Kurup, Advocate, on behalf of the company told Mirror, "The film has used the name of the brand extensively. Apart from the song, the storyline too has Murphy incorporated in it. We hear the hero's ambition in the film is to become Murphy munna. Not only have they used the client's name without our NOC but they have also done a negative portrayal of the brand. This is clearly a case of trademark infringement."

Kurup told us that Murphy Enterprises is seeking compensation of Rs 50 crore. "If they do not respond to our notice,we will seek an injunction and ask for a stay of the release of the film," he said and added that though they are short of time as the film releases this Friday, they will make every effort possible to move the court before Friday.

Soon after this, when the break was announced, Kumar requested the 69-year-old Bollywood veteran to meet his daughter and he gladly obliged. Big B went ahead and took the little one in his arms and started playing with her. Now, that's one lucky baby!

Yash Chopra has given the name of movie JAB TAK HAIN JAAN starring SRK,KATRINA,Anushka

Yash Chopra filmmaker has finally given the name of the movie "JAB TAK HAIN JAAN" starring SRK,KATRINA and ANUSHKA.The title  of the film is taken from the song of "1975 SHOLAY".

The title announcement was made on Tuesday,waiting months speculation "Yaara Silli Silli" and "London Paris".

"JabTak Hain Jaan" marks the filmmaker comeback in 2004 cross border romance starring SRK,Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee "Veer Zara".

In the new film, Shah Rukh is said to be playing an army officer named Samar, as suggested by first look pictures from the film's shooting in Ladakh in the Jammu and Kashmir region.

The crew has also shot in London and were shooting in the scenic Kashmir Valley till last week.

The film's poster gives a sneak peek into Katrina's feminine look in the film, while it shows Anushka as a rough and tough girl, riding a bike. Shah Rukh sports two looks - a romantic, clean shaven hero look, and another, a grungy, bearded look

"Jab Tak Hai Jaan" has also brought together the award-winning pair of A.R. Rahman and Gulzar, who are said to have created some wonderful and poetic music for this romantic film.Tfilm is set to release  on Nov13,Diwali.
